Stump Grinding & Removal

Efficient stump removal with minimal disruption.

Using specialist stump-grinding equipment, JRT Tree Care grinds unwanted stumps below ground level, helping to leave the area clear and ready for replanting, landscaping or general use. We provide stump grinding across Orpington, Oxted and surrounding areas.

What Is Stump Grinding?

Stump grinding uses specialist machinery to reduce an unwanted tree stump into small wood chips. The stump is ground below the surrounding soil level without the larger excavation needed to remove the complete root system.

Each site is assessed for access, stump size and nearby obstacles before work begins. The remaining area can then be prepared for replanting, landscaping or general use.

When Is Stump Grinding Useful?

Reclaiming usable space — Clears the visible stump from lawns, borders and other garden areas.

Removing an obstacle — Helps where a stump interferes with mowing, planting, access or everyday use.

Preparing for landscaping — Makes it easier to redesign, replant or reuse the surrounding space.

Reducing unwanted regrowth — Removing the main stump material can help reduce new shoots developing from it.

Recent Stump Grinding Project

This stump was positioned directly where the customer wanted to install a new section of fencing. We ground it below surface level, removing the obstruction and clearing the planned fence line.

What Happens After Stump Grinding?

After the stump has been ground below surface level, we remove almost all of the resulting waste from the working area. Only a small amount is retained to backfill the hollow where the stump once stood, so a large hole is not left behind.

The retained material breaks down naturally over time, adding organic matter to the soil and helping prepare the area for planting or future use.

How We Finish the Job

Below-ground grinding — The main stump is reduced beneath the surrounding soil level.

Waste removal — Almost all loose grindings are removed from the working area.

Careful backfilling — Only enough material is retained to fill the remaining hollow safely.

Ready for future use — The area is left tidy and easier to replant, landscape or reuse.
